LIGHTBOX IMAGE VIEWER - BASIC WEB ALBUM WITH DESCRIPTIVE TEXT ENTERED WHEN UPLOADING PHOTOS.

In theory, every page on the website can have its own unique photo gallery. Each uploaded photo is associated with a specific page ID number within the content management system. The uploaded JPG files should be of a consistent size and aspect ratio.

If the aspect ratio (height vs. width) varies between photos, some of the thumbnails will need to be downloaded, manually cropped, resized (usually to 200x150), and uploaded via FTP to the appropriate directory, after which the height and width parameters of the HTML IMG SRC tag previously saved in the database will require adjustment.

Only one photo can be uploaded at a time, in order to facilitate the simultaneous entry of descriptive text. Images should be uploaded in the order in which they should be displayed (left to right, top to bottom). Available sort fields include the time at which they're uploaded (either ascending or descending), or the description entered when uploading the photo.

All photos for a specific page ID should be uploaded prior to making any adjustments to thumbnails.

An upload form will be automatically displayed (here) to authorized users who are logged into the system. A short description, or a URL, can be entered before the photo is uploaded, and optionally displayed below the thumbnails, and/or displayed below the full size image.

Thumbnails will be automatically created when uploading large images. Gigantic images may be uploaded. Uploaded JPG images will be "web optimized" on-the-fly, and reduced in size, typically to a pre-determined maximum width of 800 pixels.

The original photos uploaded to a given page should be (1) large in size, (2) have a consistent size, and (3) have a consistent aspect ratio. Digital cameras usually output photos having a 4:3 aspect ratio (no pre-processing necessary, simply upload the photos). If photos need to be cropped prior to upload, maintain the 4:3 aspect ratio when cropping.

Upon request, it is also possible to re-order the display by using a manually configured "sort number". The manual sort feature uses numeric values between 0 and 999. Upon upload, each photo is arbitrarily assigned a "sort number" of 999. The SQL query can then be adjusted to sort images based on the value of the associated "sort number".
