Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Google Webmaster Tools tells me that one of my personal websites currently: (1) is visited each month by more than 7,000 different users, (2) returned in Page 1 of Google search results for 300 different phrases, (3) receives more than 45,000 Page 1 placements each month on Google, and (4) has a far better page rank than client sites where the client insists they know which words to feature in headlines. Someone suggested that if all the material published on the Internet last year was printed on paper, the result would be 12 stacks of paper reaching to the Moon. This is making it increasing difficult for web developers to achieve and sustain a web site's dominant rank with the major search engines. Extreme competition in certain industries such as real estate can make it very difficult to achieve substantial pagerank. Those who opt for the development of the cheapest possible web site are wasting their money. This is evident based on the fact that an entire industry (SEO) has come into existence as a result of the average website being thrown together as fast as possible and as inexpensively as possible. You get what you pay for. As with most things in life, if you invest minimally in any project, the rewards will be minimal. In order to be well ranked, sites must contain a significant amount of original verbiage and be linked to by other sites. Incoming links containing relevant keywords are extremely valuable if the linking site has a good pagerank. Blogging has also become a popular method to promote related websites. Through careful planning and deployment of your web site, your business goals can be achieved by developing a search engine friendly web site with outstanding page rank. It is not particularly difficult to create a well ranked website, but it does require a great deal of rather tedious planning and execution. If the site owner provides well written content in an organized manner, there exists a greater likelihood of success with SEO. Web sites that are thoughtfully prepared, carefully executed, and updated periodically can often dominate search engine results for specific keyword phrases. Web sites that are thrown together on a low budget, simply to have a web presence, are unlikely to succeed against overwhelming competition on the Internet. Web sites that rarely dominate search results are those that over-use images and Flash to deliver their message. Without a substantial amount of text on the page, graphic-driven sites rarely achieve or maintain the desired search engine ranking. Given that search engines are voraciously prowling the Internet 24 hours a day in search of new content, compelling reasons exist to update web site content on a regular basis. This has given rise to a variety of dynamic (database driven) web site concepts that facilitate editing the site's content online, in real time. Dynamic (database driven) websitesDynamic, PHP-driven content such as this content management system is important for a number of reasons. With data compression enabled, the download time for an optimized PHP page is about one-third the download time of a comparable HTML page. More importantly, the search engines appear to prefer dynamic content (web pages created on-the-fly) over static HTML pages. Poor web site performance results when very little text is displayed on each page, Flash and images are used excessively to display content, Javascript navigation (which robots do not follow) is employed, descriptive META tags and TITLE tags are omitted, a site map is omitted, Google XML Site Map is omitted, and content is delivered in the form of static HTML pages instead of dynamic database driven content. The website administrator for this content management system can use the built-in Google Sitemap tool to generate BBCODE links for use at AboutUs.org The following is an example of the BBCODE for AboutUs.org. * [http://www.phpvs.com/index.php?s=25 '''Professional Web Hosting with cPanel, PHP, MySQL, and Fantastico'''] Web 2.0 may not be all it's cracked up to beBe advised that the so-called Web 2.0 approach to website development relies heavily on Javascript which is not processed by web robots. As regards SEO, the development of Web 2.0 sites is potentially a waste of time and money given the fact that robots will never see content delivered using AJAX.
